The town of Wiluna is 966 kilometres northeast of Perth and is situated on the edge of the desert at the gateway to the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel Highway. Facilities at Wiluna include an art gallery, recreation centre, caravan park, hotel-motel, fuel, supermarket, police, health and medical service and post office.

Each year the Shire organises a number of regular local sporting events, including participation in several regional and state sporting competitions. Involvement of individuals and teams from some of the surrounding mining camps are also a regular occurrence. The Wiluna Shire office is located in the old town hospital and is still used regularly for Council and Committee meetings. The town also has a new recreation centre building that is used for community meetings and events.
